Careers at Hampstead theatrE
Development Director
Hampstead Theatre is one of the UK’s leading new writing theatres — a home for bold, original storytelling and a launchpad for extraordinary talent. As we move forward without Arts Council England revenue funding, philanthropy is more vital than ever. We are seeking an exceptional Development Director to lead the next chapter of our fundraising journey.
Why now?
-
Following nearly twelve remarkable years at Hampstead Theatre, Cathy Baker will be stepping down from her role as Development Director this summer for a well-earned retirement.
-
The #HampsteadAhead campaign has already raised £1.1m to secure the theatre’s future.
-
Our audiences remain strong, with over 100,000 tickets sold in 2024–25.
-
Our small but ambitious Development team has achieved major successes, including fundraising galas, giving circles and major gifts built around outstanding productions, which exemplify the powerful link between artistic excellence and philanthropic enthusiasm.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a major London theatre and lead a dynamic fundraising portfolio.
What you’ll lead
-
Major Gifts & Philanthropy — grow a committed donor base that champions new writing. Patrons Programme — engaging supporters at levels from £450 to £12,000+.
-
Friends & Friends Plus — committed supporters at the introductory giving level who enable our work with emerging writers and help keep Under‑30s tickets affordable.
-
Production Syndicates — offering donors exclusive behind-the-scenes access.
-
Trusts & Foundations — building on existing relationships with major funders.
-
Corporate Partnerships — unlocking new business relationships.
